Agency's participation in events to increase public financial awareness in 2022

The Agency is working to increase the financial awareness of the population, which is aimed at informing citizens about the system of guaranteed compensation of bank deposits (deposits) of individuals, in order to stimulate the attraction of savings of the population and strengthen depositors' confidence in the banking system of the Republic of Belarus. 

Measures to improve financial awareness are of great interest both among representatives of the financial sector and the general public in general.

In accordance with the Plan of Joint Actions to improve financial awareness of the population for 2019-2024, approved by Resolution No. 241/6 of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus and the National Bank dated April 12, 2019, in 2022, the Agency organized and carried out measures to increase financial awareness of the population:

speeches to schoolchildren from Minsk and Minsk region with demonstration of material on reasonable borrowing money, digital security of personal finance and the importance of savings;

participation in the event on summing up the results of the VIII School Graduates Competition 'Financial and Digital Literacy of Generation Z', organized by the Economics Faculty of the Belarusian State University;

conducting lectures for teaching staff and students of general secondary education institutions, students and teachers of higher educational institutions in Minsk, Gomel, Brest and Minsk regions on the topics 'System of guaranteed deposit compensation' and 'Activities of the Agency for Crisis Management of Financial Organizations';

signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and cooperation between the Agency and the Francysk Skaryna's Gomel State University (Gomel) in order to develop relations in the field of improving financial awareness of the population of the Republic of Belarus, including on issues of guaranteed repayment of bank deposits (deposits) of individuals.

In 2022, the Agency conducted 18 financial awareness events covering more than 1,450 students.

The Agency's participation in measures to improve financial literacy of the population in 2021

In accordance with the Joint Action Plan to Improve Financial Literacy of the Population for 2019-2024, approved by Resolution No. 241/6 of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus and the National Bank of April 12, 2019, in order to strengthen depositors' confidence in the banking system of the Republic of Belarus, the Agency organized and carried out the following measures to improve financial literacy of the population in 2021:

Minsk schoolchildren on the topic “On the importance of savings”;

presentation to bank employees of Alfa-Bank CJSC, BNB-Bank OJSC explaining the main aspects of the current legislation in the field of guaranteeing the reimbursement of bank deposits;

presentation of a presentation on the topic “Guaranteed deposit compensation system” for employees of educational institutions of Mogilev and Mogilev region, Vitebsk and Vitebsk region at events held by the Main Directorate of the National Bank for Mogilev and Vitebsk regions;

participation in the implementation of the republican project of the Faculty of Economics of the Belarusian State University – the VII Competition of school graduates “Financial and digital literacy of generation Z”;

presentation of demonstration materials on digital security of personal finances and guaranteed refund of funds within the third (regional) stage of the Republican Olympiad on Financial Literacy held by the Minsk Regional Institute of Education Development;

conducting online lectures on financial literacy for teachers and students of general secondary education institutions, students and teachers of higher educational institutions in Minsk, Gomel and Vitebsk regions on the topic “The system of guaranteed deposit compensation – 12 years of experience".

In 2021, the Agency conducted 17 financial literacy events covering about 900 students.

The Agency's participation in measures to improve financial literacy of the population in 2020

In order to implement one of the main tasks defined by the Agency's Charter, namely, “strengthening depositors” confidence in the banking system of the Republic of Belarus in order to attract additional investments into the economy”, the Agency carried out measures to improve financial literacy of the population in 2020. With the increase in the level of financial literacy of the population, the involvement of citizens' savings in the financial system increases, confidence in state policy in the banking sector is strengthened, the population gains knowledge of the principles and instruments of the financial market.

A special feature of 2020 was the widespread introduction by the governments of the countries of the world, including in the Republic of Belarus, of anti-epidemic measures aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19 infection. The introduced sanitary requirements have limited the conduct of training activities. At the same time, the Agency has found opportunities to conduct financial literacy activities in the context of a pandemic, including:

participation in the implementation of the republican project of the Faculty of Economics of the Belarusian State University – VI Competition of school graduates “Financial and digital literacy of generation Z” and “School of Young Economist”;

questions have been prepared on guaranteed compensation of bank deposits (deposits) of individuals for participants of the Olympiads;

presentations “The role of the Agency in the reimbursement of bank deposits to individuals” were held for students of schools, gymnasiums and lyceums in Minsk, regions of the Republic of Belarus;

a presentation on the topic “The system of guaranteed deposit compensation” was presented at a seminar held by the Main Directorate of the National Bank for the Brest region for journalists of regional mass media;

A lecture on the topic “Deposit compensation guarantee system – 12 years of experience” was held at the Minsk Regional Institute of Education Development.

The Agency's participation in measures to improve financial literacy of the population in 2019

In 2019, the “Agency of Deposit Compensation” carried out 20 measures to improve financial literacy of the population.

The presentations of the Agency's employees were held in 9 banks (JSC “ASB Belarusbank”, CJSC “VTB Bank”, “Priorbank”, JSC “BNB-Bank”, JSC “Belinvestbank”, CJSC “Absolutbank”) on the following topics: features of legislation regulating guaranteed repayment of bank deposits, the procedure for forming the register of bank obligations to individuals, the procedure for paying mandatory contributions to the Agency's reserve.

11 events were held in educational institutions of Minsk, Mogilev and Gomel regions, the Belarusian Notary Chamber, the territorial Fund for Social Protection of the population of Vitebsk and the “School of Young Economist” at the Belarusian State University.

The Agency took part in the Olympiads held by the Economics Faculty of the Belarusian State University, namely: in the V-th International Financial Olympiad on Analytical Economics and Forecasting, which brought together students of higher educational institutions from Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan, as well as in the Olympiad “Financial and Digital Literacy of generation Z” among schoolchildren of the Republic of Belarus.

The General Directorate of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus for the Brest Region in 2019 organized a seminar “Topical issues of retail banking services” for journalists of regional mass media. The Agency took part in this seminar and provided information for journalists of “Evening Brest”, “BugTV”, “Brest Courier” about the most important aspects of legislation in terms of guarantees and safety of public funds deposited in banks of the Republic of Belarus.
