Meeting of representatives of the EAEU Member States in Minsk
As part of the activities of the of the Expert Group on the Harmonization of legislation in the field of insurance (guaranteeing) bank deposits, liquidation, financial recovery and bankruptcy of credit institutions at the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union (hereinafter – EAEU) under the Advisory Committee on Financial Markets of the Eurasian Economic Commission, was held a meeting on May 22-23, 2024 in Minsk, Republic of Belarus that was organized by the state institution “Agency for Guaranteed Reimbursement of Bank Deposits (Deposits) of Individuals” of the Republic of Belarus (hereinafter – the Agency). The meeting was attended by representatives of the Eurasian Economic Commission, deposit insurance organizations, as well as organizations of financial regulators of the EAEU member states.
During the meeting, issues important for the harmonization of legislation of the member states in the field of insurance (guarantee) of bank deposits, integration processes within the EAEU and the formation of a common financial market were discussed. In particular, such issues as the management bodies of deposit insurers; objects and subjects of insurance; the amount of insurance compensation and payments in the deposit currency; the right of the deposit insurer to claim the liquidated bank (recovery of funds); bringing to justice persons involved in the bankruptcy of the bank, and the role of the deposit insurer in this were discussed.
The meeting was held in person, as well as through online connection of participants.
