International Conference on Harmonization of Deposit Insurance Systems

The Agency took part in the International Conference “Harmonizing Deposit Insurance Systems and Bank Resolution Regimes: Challenges and Best Practices”, which was held in Kazan (Russian Fedaration) from 08.06.2022 to 10.06.2022. The conference was organized by the “Insurance Agency contributions” (DIA) jointly with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
About 100 representatives from 13 countries of the world took part in the event. The conference participants discussed the issues of harmonizing approaches to protecting the interests of depositors and other creditors of financial institutions, as well as maintaining financial stability in the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Deputy Director General of the Agency Sviatlana Leha made presentation on the topic: “Improving the deposit insurance system (deposits) in the Republic of Belarus. Practical experience of implementing the fundamental principles of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI)”. The presentation highlights the stages of development of the system of compensation of deposits in the Republic of Belarus, and also paid attention to the main changes to the Law “On Guaranteed Compensation of Bank Deposits of Individuals”, which came into force on April 1, 2022.
Youry Lipnitsky, Deputy General Director of the Agency, took part in a panel session on the topic “Prospects for harmonizing the deposit insurance systems of the EAEU Member States”, during which the heads of organizations - deposit insurers of the EAEU Member States, together with representatives of the EEC, discussed topical issues of harmonization of legislation and adaptation of international standards and best practices in the EAEU member states.
As a result of the conference, participants agreed on the further development of international partnership in the field of deposit insurance.
